Stage 17 Breakdown:

Stage 17 bring the riders on a hilly 178km journey from Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux to Superdévoluy. Three categorized climbs face the riders, with one 3rd, one 2nd and one 1st category. Given the hilly stage profile but without the toughest finish, it might be a stage where neither the sprint teams nor the GC teams are interested to control the pace. This could pave the way for a breakaway to finally take down a stage.

The 1st category climb up Col du Noyer is 7.5km with 8.1% and is passed with 11.5km to go. The final climb up to Superdévoluy is 3.8km with an average gradient of 5.9%. A climber with a strong finish making it into the breakaway will have good chances to take home the win. Could Tobias Halland Johannesen get his first tdf stage win?
